2007 was the first year for a spring party. In an effort to provide a party opportunity for everyone and help us get to know our neighbors, we sponsored a bunko party. Bunko is a dice game that is learned in just a couple minutes. Players move from table to table throughout the game, providing a great opportunity to meet and greet people.
Our summer picnic is held on a Saturday in June. Homeowner grill masters volunteer to “man” the grill of brats, burgers, hotdogs, chicken breast or whatever is the menu that year. Other volunteers prepare the salads and fixings, and do the clean up.
Entertainment consists of games at the direction of volunteer homeowners, and/or musicians playing for our enjoyment and leading a sing along, or a disk jockey proving a selection of music for all to enjoy.
Historically, the wine party began as a wine and cheese party. Wine was provided along with various cheeses, cheese balls, both sweet and savory and crackers. In 2005, along with the normal wine and cheese offerings, there was a wine tasting that allowed us to taste some fine French wines. Everyone seemed to enjoy that.
The experiment in 2005, lead to the new format in 2006 and 2007. We took a local approach with a “Taste of Arkansas” theme. With the assistance of a new winery in Eureka Springs, Keels Creek Winery, wines were selected that allowed everyone to experience new tastes. Along with each wine, Keels Creek Winery co-owner described the wine, what it is made from, and suggested specific food that wine enhances. Some of those food choices were then served.
Octoberfest is held the last part of September to maintain the traditions of Germany (and the Wisconsin homeowners who started this event many years ago).
This event consists of German decorations, menu and a local musician providing the opportunity to dance to all types of music, including a few German selections.
Homeowners Association sponsors the Holiday Lights at the main entrance to Holiday Island. The beautiful display is planned, put up and taken down by the current chairperson C.J. Lough.
A Christmas Lighting social gathering is held in conjunction with turning these on each year. We gather as a community to celebrate the season with songs and warm refreshments. For information about this gathering, contact the member at large on the board of Trustees.
This event is a beautifully decorated event held in the clubhouse ballroom. A complete dinner is provided and served by a group of volunteers. Usually, a band provides music for easy listening while friends converse with each other, or dances to the selection of songs.
New Years Eve parties are in transition. Historically, a dance with live musicians and appetizers were provided. In the last several years, this event has not been highly attended. The 2007 party is an afternoon progressive bunko party. A build your own sandwich bar and homemade soups were provided between games. After this party, a decision will be made to determine the future party events.
