HI Association of Arts

Last Modified: 08/25/11

The Holiday Island Association of the Arts (H.I.A. of A.) resulted from the vision of a weekly art class which began meeting at Holiday Island in 1986. The class members recognized the need to form an umbrella association which would provide opportunities in arts, crafts, music and literature.

Membership includes persons who join and participate in guild activities and persons who support the Association but are not active guild members. We encourage you to join/support the Holiday Island Association of the Arts even if you cannot be an active member.

Before 2011 gets away from us, I’d like to see the Association’s Officers and Guild Coordinator’s updated --

     President – Ron Huibregtse

     Vice-President  - Bill Harris

     Secretary – Mary Lou Martin

     Treasurer – Jim Cope

Guild Coordinator’s--

Art – Pat Rogers, Crafts – Open, Theater – Bill & Donna Harris, Music – Marquis Jones, Photography – Steve Shogren, and Readers/Writers – Carol McGowan & Barbara Rhodes

H.I. Chamber of Commerce Art Reception, Sept. 2, 2011

The H.I. Chamber of Commerce is again sponsoring a Wine & Cheese Reception at the Visitors Center on Friday evening, Sept. 2, to promote H.I.  There will also be a radio remote broadcast on Friday, Sept. 2, and Saturday, Sept. 3.  They have invited our Artists to participate again this year.  The same rules apply, all work sold will be subject to 10 percent to the Chamber.  If you would care to donate an item for their Silent Auction fundraiser you
can also do that.

If you are intersted in participating, bring your paintings, photographs, sculptures, fabric or wood to the Visitors Center on Tuesday, Aug. 30, or Wednesday, Aug. 31, between the hours of 8 AM - 6PM.  Please limit your entries to a maximum of 6 items.  There is no fee for entering.

Pam Hinson will be in charge of the arranging and hanging your work.

If you have any questions regarding this, call or e-mail Pat Rogers (2537534) or bmpr@cox.net.

Cornerstone Bank: Thank you, Jim Sexton for a GREAT show in March. Jim's watercolors blew me away. I hope everyone took the time to go see them!!!!!!!!!!!! And of course his acrylics. The watercolors were just such a surprise! Yes, I am intruding my personal comment here. Sorry, couldn't resist. Jim deserves praise. By the way, he said he got a kick out of doing the exhibit, got lots of compliments, and even sold a major piece! Carol McGowen is in Cornerstone for April.

May Meeting Program: The current head of ESSA as guest speaker? Or, as David Hirsch suggested, portrait drawing by us of fellow guild members? (Should be fun!)  OR? Make your suggestions! bmpr@cox.net or ckmcg@cox.net.

July Meeting: Field trip to Watercolor USA in Springfield

Please send additions or corrections to ckmcg@cox.net.
Thanks.
